In Spring 2021, the HCoA was awarded a one-year Ontario Inclusive Communities Grant to support the implementation of Hamilton’s 2021-2026 Age-Friendly Community Plan. Following a governance review, a need for increased community engagement and ownership of the Plan was identified. The organizational structure was revised to include an Age-Friendly Collaborative Committee comprised of members from HCoA, the City of Hamilton, Hamilton’s Seniors Advisory Committee and organizational partners as Goal Champions for each of the seven-goal categories in the Plan.
We welcomed and onboarded eleven new members to the Age-Friendly Collaborative Committee and worked with the Hamilton Social Planning & Research Council to develop action and evaluation planning tools. We engaged the Hamilton Community through an online questionnaire, to learn more about the 2021 age-friendly practices advancing the interests of older adults throughout the city. As a result, we recently launched the 2021 Hamilton Age-Friendly Community Progress Report that highlights and celebrates our collective contributions towards making Hamilton a place to live and age well.
Thank you to all of the partners that contributed to the success of 2021. To learn more and view Hamilton’s 2021 Age-Friendly Community Progress Report visit, coahamilton.ca/our-priorities/age-friendly-hamilton/
